Welcome to Henrico

A quiet town with a vibrant boating community

Henrico is a small and unincorporated community just eleven miles west-northwest from Roanoke Rapids. This town is rural and features plenty of natural open space as well as quiet residential communities. Henrico’s beautiful waterfront properties suit its resident’s love of recreational lakeside activities perfectly.

What to Love

  • Quiet, small-town feel
  • Heavily influenced by water sports and activities
  • Vibrant boating community
  • Dedicated community
  • Waterfront properties

Local Lifestyle

The residents of Henrico are big outdoor enthusiasts and love living life on the water’s edge near the beautiful Lake Gaston and surrounding areas. This may be a small town but there are plenty of outdoor and local events to attend. The locals have a tight-knit and dedicated community, and everybody knows your name in Henrico!

Residents are frequently seen at the North Hampton Marine, a specialty shop for jet skis and boat engine repairs. Year-round and seasonal residents can rent pontoon boats, deck boats, and other equipment to enjoy all the fishing and skiing that Lake Gaston has to offer. North Hampton Marine is family-owned and operated, encompassing the “locals only” feel. North Hampton can provide you with all that you need to hit the lake for tubing, waterboarding, and swimming!

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Henrico has plenty to offer foodies. Jenny Cakes at the Lake is female-owned and operated by Jennifer Harlow, a local to the area. Jenny serves up fresh bread, breakfast pastries, and desserts, and her vision is to bring high-quality and innovative baked goods to the Lake Gaston area.

For a unique shopping experience, we highly recommend the Lake Gaston Flea Market. This COVID-safe and socially distant flea market has unbeatable prices and runs every Saturday and Sunday. The Flea Market has local, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, plus locally raised flowers, from Windy Acres Farm. For an excellent, family-friendly activity, the Lakeside Mini Golf & Madfreeze is located in the heart of the flea market.

Things to Do

Take your boat out onto Lake Gaston every year on July 3rd, and witness the incredible Veterans Tribute (a.k.a “Pea Hill Creek” fireworks). This nonprofit runs on donations, so your donations are welcome and support wounded veterans all year round!

With Henrico’s heavy lakeside presence, Washburn’s Marina has events by the docks. Rain or shine, residents will be cooking up oysters, fish, shrimp, beans, slaw, and hush puppies to a live band. While not exactly an ‘event,’ all of the locals know of Wobble Island. This hangout and party spot serves as both a boating club and a spot for tons of local activities!

Schools

Henrico is mostly an open and residential area without much development including public or private schools. There are many other great schools and school districts in the area!
